The Eat BC! campaign is a valuable promotions tool that will help all BC food producers and processors connect with restaurant, foodservice and retail buyers.
Many chefs, (from casual to fine dining restaurants), retailers and distributors are looking for home-grown, high quality, fresh ingredients to sell to their customers. Why? Because buying local is always fresher and it provides a real opportunity to actively support local communities and the local food industry. Consistently choosing BC foods and beverages can help sustain the livelihoods of local growers and processors by creating demand for local products, which creates more jobs, and contributes to a healthier economy and a more vibrant local food system. In addition, choosing local foods and beverages can help protect our natural environment. How? Local foods equal local distances. Reducing the amount of transportation needed for food to go from field to plate means less shipping, less fuel consumption and fewer greenhouse gas emissions – all of which help to reduce air pollution and acid rain (that contribute to climate change).
To support the continued growth of this local food movement, the Eat BC! campaign is helping BC producers and processors enter new markets and build new business relationships with BC restaurant, food service and retail buyers . The Eat BC! campaign is also assisting local producers and processors by providing valuable linkages to helpful networking, marketing, media and educational opportunities.
An evolving communications, media and advertising program targeting consumers in all regions of the province is in place to support the campaign, with the bulk of this support being focused in September of each year. There is no fee to participate. Eat BC! is a new program, but it is gaining momentum province-wide and we welcome your feedback. Please contact us anytime so that we can learn how to better meet your needs.
Eat BC! is an initiative of the British Columbia Restaurant and Foodservices Association (BCRFA) and the BC Agriculture Council (BCAC), with funding support provided by the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, the BC Investment Agriculture Foundation and many industry sponsors.
