Slow Food Cycle Tour Agassiz
Date: Saturday, August 9, 2008 City: Agassiz |
Abandon your fast life for one day of S L O W and join SLOW FOOD CYCLE TOURS. Come to Agassiz on Saturday, August 9th, 2008 to participate in a self-guided bicycle ride following the popular 30 km Circle Farm Tour. Embark on a leisurely cycle and learn more about local food production. Riding your bicycle, you will get to experience and taste local food products produced close to home, while getting to know and supporting your local farmers. Inspired by the success of Slow Food Cycle Sunday Pemberton and the popular Circle Farm Tour, SLOW FOOD Vancouver and the farmers of Agassiz are hosting this culinary adventure that will explore several farms. Some farms will be open to the public for this day only. For example, you will have a rare glimpse of a large commercial dairy farm, see how farming was done in the 1920s, see both heritage and rare breeds of cows and other animals, visit a farm that grows 25 different varieties of garlic and another farm that makes unique artisan cheeses. Most farms will provide an opportunity to sample or purchase their products that may include herb-inspired treats, chocolates, vinegars, unique vegetables, artisan cheeses and many other food items as well. |
Slow Food Cycle Sunday
Date: Sunday, August 17, 2008 City: Pemberton Website: www.slowfoodcyclesunday.com |
Sea to Sky's signature agritourism event, Slow Food Cycle Sunday Pemberton blows the fast-food drive-through away. A pedal-powered trip through the natural buffet that is Pemberton Meadows farmland, to meet local growers and sample produce fresh from the field, Slow Food Cycle is: good for your carbon credits, flat and scenic and ride-able for all ages and levels of fitness, and a sensory smorgasboard. The World Watch Institute reports that the average food item eaten in North America has traveled 2500-4000 km from farm table. The distance between good food and your table is as short as a 26km bike ride. The future of food is local! |
